Nikki's Story
Mental Health and the Child Welfare System
Nikki is a young mother coping with bipolar disorder. But while giving birth to her son, the hospital staff misunderstood Nikki’s behavior and called child protective services. Matthew was wrongfully removed from his mother’s care. CFR helped her overcome many struggles and advocated for her family’s safe reunion.
At Celebrating Families 2011, CFR honored Nikki with our Spirit Award for her amazing achievements as a parent.
