Letter to the Editor: Pandemic Spending Kept Families Together

October 10, 2022

The New York Times published a letter by Center for Family Representation (CFR) Executive Director Michele Cortese in response to a piece on allowing pandemic spending programs to expire.

The letter appeared in the Times’ Opinion section on Monday, October 10, 2022.

“Dismantling the pandemic safety net will plunge at-risk families back into financial distress,” Michele Cortese wrote. “We fear that child welfare involvement will return to prepandemic levels because poverty is often mistaken for neglect. This is especially true for Black and brown families, who are disproportionately targeted by the system.”
