Working at CFR
We are an interdisciplinary team that works together to defend and support families across New York City.
Our nationally recognized model includes a team of attorneys, social workers, and parent advocates who have been through the system themselves. This team-based approach to family defense is proven to reduce the time children spend in the foster system—or avoid it altogether—and means that our clients get more people-centered support for their families. The success of this approach has set a new standard for public defense in the United States and we train more than 1,000 practitioners around the country on it each year.
We are deeply committed to being an Anti-Racist organization.
CFR strives to create an inclusive and anti-racist environment for all of its staff. We continue to reaffirm our commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) through work groups and affinity groups that bring staff together to share their lived experiences, unique perspectives, and discuss how to navigate workplace and societal impacts on their identities while building community. In 2024, CFR earned an organizational certification in Workplace Inclusion from the Human Resource Standards Institute (HRSI).
